The Cancer de Mama Clinic in Mexico

The Cancer de Mama Clinic is a project founded in 1996 by Jackie Jackson from Enderby, B.C. As a breast cancer survivor herself Jackie understood what women needed during such a difficult time. Jackie became aware that Nayarit, Mexico had a very high incidence of breast cancer and women there had limited access to help. She decided to take donations and supplies to the women of Mexico and this wonderful gesture became the amazing Cancer de Mama Clinic of today. The Cancer de Mama Clinic is a three-day event held annually in La Penita, Mexico with more than 100 volunteers who travel from all over North America. At the Clinic, women receive support, information and compassion. They have access to gently used bras, prosthetics, wigs and head coverings. The caring volunteers make sure each woman gets the kind of help she needs, whether that is funding for medical expenses, counselling and physical therapy or a properly fitted bra and prosthesis. Many women suffering from lymphedema are able to get compression garments and assistance with wrapping to make them more comfortable. The project’s mission is to provide education and services that are a crucial part of the healing process for breast cancer survivors. Cancer de Mama Clinic is one of the recipients of the generous donations of bras, scarves, hats and prosthetics that Lifeart Prosthetics receives on a regular basis. We are happy to accept donations of gently used bras, lingerie, wigs and compression garments. We will refurbish and repurpose your items with our Mexican sisters’ needs in mind.
